HANDWARA: In a major breakthrough, the police in Handwara have dismantled a gang involved in a series of burglaries, recovering stolen property worth lakhs of rupees.
The case was uncovered when Javid Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kulangam, reported a theft at his godown in Kulangam to the Police Post Chogul. Based on his complaint, an FIR (No. 199/2024) was registered at PS Handwara, and an investigation was swiftly initiated.
During the investigation, police arrested Ishfaq Ahmad Beigh, a resident of Kulangam, whose interrogation led to the identification and arrest of three more suspects: Umer Bin Wali from Highama, Kupwara; Danish Khaliq Ganie from Neelipora, Magam; and Adil Ahmad Chopan from Nagri Hatmullah.
The police’s prompt action resulted in the recovery of stolen goods valued in lakhs, dealing a significant blow to the criminal gang operating in the area. So far, the recovered items include 34 carpets, 10 chairs, 34 mattresses, 34 quilts, and other stolen materials.
