SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A specific checkpoint at Khudwani Byepass was established by the police party of Police Station Qaimoh and during checking, one suspicious person was intercepted who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, police said in a statement.
“After a search, officers present were able to recover 750 grams of Cannabis-like substance from his possession. He has been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh resident of Kawaki Bazar Qaimoh,” the statement said.
Moreover, a police party led by IC PP JT at a checkpoint established at Gulab Bagh intercepted a person carrying a nylon bag. “During the search, 3 Kgs of Poppy Straw, 03.50 grams of Brown Sugar, 1 digital weighing machine and a cash amount of Rs 29,750 pertaining to proceeds of narcotic substance were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Nizamuddin Kunshee Son of Mohd Abdullah Kunshee resident of Gulab Bagh was arrested on the spot,” police said.
Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been taken up, the statement said.
“People are requested to cooperate with police in the battle against the drug menace and any information regarding anti-social activity in their neighbourhood should be shared with nearby police unit or Dial-112 so that timely action against the culprits will be taken,” police said.
