An open letter to LG Manoj Sinha and DGP R R Swain

Subject: Cold-blooded murder of Aabid Manzoor Dar of Barsoo village in Awantipora, District Pulwama, J&K UT

Respected Sir,

I am writing this open letter to bring to your urgent attention the tragic and cold-blooded murder of my brother, Aabid Manzoor Dar, a resident of Barsoo, Tehsil Awantipora, District Pulwama, J&K UT. Aabid went missing near Jawbrara, Awantipora on 15th July 2024. Three days later, on 18th July 2024, his lifeless body was found, bearing horrific torture marks that suggest foul play and rule out the possibility of accidental drowning.

We demand transparency and accountability in the investigation of this case. During a recent meeting, IGP Kashmir emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of investigations to increase the conviction rate. He reiterated the J&K Police’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the swift resolution of cases to ensure timely justice and the well-being of the people. The officers participating in the meeting briefed IGP Kashmir about the overall crime situation in the Kashmir zone and highlighted their efforts to prevent crime and improve the quality of investigations.

Given the circumstances of Aabid’s death, the investigation must be conducted with the utmost fairness and impartiality. The autopsy and FSL reports, which are expected soon, will likely provide more clarity on the cause of death. As DIG South Kashmir Javed Iqbal Mattoo Sahib is the investigating officer of this case, we hope for a thorough and unbiased inquiry.

We have the following demands that must be addressed by the administration and police department:

  1. Justice for Aabid Manzoor Dar: We demand that the perpetrators of this heinous crime be identified and brought to justice without any delay.
  2. Support for Aabid’s Family: Aabid leaves behind a grieving wife and two young children (a 6-year-old boy and a 6-month-old baby girl). They must receive justice and the necessary support to cope with this immense loss.

We urge the administration and the police department to ensure a fair investigation and deliver justice promptly.

Yours sincerely,

Aadil Manzoor Dar

Lumbardar Barsoo & Brother of Aabid Manzoor Dar
