SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressed the congregation at Jama Masjid, expressing concern over recent events and urging collective responsibility in preserving Kashmiri values.
Reflecting on his recent detention at home, Mirwaiz highlighted the distressing incident at Dal Lake, where individuals were observed drinking publicly in a shikara. While authorities have taken action, he emphasized the shared responsibility of society in preventing such occurrences, especially in maintaining the sanctity of Kashmir’s Islamic ethos amidst diverse visitors to the region.
He underscored the vital role of individuals, particularly those associated with tourism, in upholding moral and religious standards, emphasizing that true prosperity lies in adhering to Islamic principles rather than resorting to immoral practices.
On the occasion of Mela Kheer Bhawani, Mirwaiz extended felicitations to the Kashmiri Pandit community, urging them to consider returning to their homeland to rebuild broken bonds and contribute to the shared heritage of Kashmir.
Expressing concern over recent incidents, including the reported custodial death of a civilian from Pulwama and the dismissal of government employees, Mirwaiz called for thorough investigations and justice to be served, stressing the importance of addressing the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue.
Mirwaiz also announced plans for Eid-ul-Adha prayers, stating that if authorities permit, prayers will be conducted collectively at the historic Eidgah Srinagar at 9 am; otherwise, Eid prayers will proceed at the same time in Jama Masjid Srinagar.
