Two pickpockets arrested in Kulgam; stolen property recovered

SRINAGAR: Kulgam Police on Friday made significant headway in curbing pickpocketing activities by apprehending two suspects and reclaiming stolen property.
Following numerous complaints of pickpocketing within their jurisdiction, Police Station Kulgam initiated action by registering a case (FIR No 54/2024) under relevant legal provisions and commencing investigations.
A proactive approach, including intensified patrolling and surveillance, was adopted by a dedicated team of Kulgam Police under the leadership of SHO Police Station Kulgam, overseen by DySP HQRS Kulgam. This concerted effort led to the identification of suspects.
Subsequently, two individuals, namely Firdous Ahmad Sheikh and Rouf Ahmad Mir, both residents of Yaripora, emerged as prime suspects during the investigative process. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the reported crimes.
From their possession, authorities recovered stolen cash amounting to Rs 50,000 and a motorcycle bearing registration number JK18-5061, which was utilized in the commission of the offenses.
The suspects revealed their modus operandi, which involved offering lifts to pedestrians and discreetly pilfering belongings through pickpocketing techniques.
As the investigation unfolds, further arrests and recoveries are anticipated, police said.
