Police bust notorious gang of truck robbers in Srinagar; 3 arrested so far

SRINAGAR: In Srinagar, police have successfully dismantled a notorious gang of robbers by apprehending three suspects involved in various criminal activities and recovering stolen items from their possession.
The crackdown began when Hakam Khan, a truck driver from Rajasthan, filed a complaint with the Shalteng Police Station on April 29, 2024. Khan reported that during the night of April 28/29, while driving his truck at Maloora, a group of individuals forcefully seized control of his vehicle. The assailants robbed Khan of Rs 15,000 in cash, two cell phones (including the truck cleaner’s phone), a gas cylinder, two watches, and the truck’s music system. Khan was also subjected to physical assault during the ordeal.
Promptly responding to the complaint, authorities registered a case (FIR No 28/2024) at the Shalteng Police Station and launched an investigation. Through diligent efforts and technical data analysis, law enforcement identified three suspects: Mohd Amir Keenu, Adnan Ahmed Shah, and Imran Ahmed Shah. These individuals were traced to various locations in Srinagar.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that the suspects were part of a well-organized gang specializing in targeting vehicles traveling along the NHW through Srinagar. Police recovered stolen items, including gas cylinders and mobile phones, from the accused individuals. The trio has since been arrested and remains in custody at the police station.
Additionally, the suspects are implicated in a separate robbery case along Lasjan Highway on April 23, 2024, during which they absconded with cash, ATM cards, driver’s licenses, and mobile phones from truck drivers. In light of this incident, FIR 44/2024 has been registered at PS Nowgam, and efforts to apprehend other individuals involved in the crimes are ongoing.
