Dir Agri inspires growth on floating gardens in Rainawari

SRINAGAR: Chowdhry Mohammad Iqbal, the Director of Agriculture Kashmir, embarked on a visit today to the floating gardens situated in Rainawari and neighboring areas. Accompanied by a team, he also toured commercial floriculture nurseries established by enterprising individuals in the vicinity.
Engaging with local vegetable growers, the director extended assurance of comprehensive technical support from the department. Emphasizing the significance of these floating gardens, he highlighted that the vegetables cultivated here, including tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, melons, and watermelons, are cultivated using purely organic methods. He underscored that these floating gardens serve as a notable attraction for tourists exploring the inner areas of Dal Lake, Kara-pura Rainawari, Abi-nowpora, and surrounding locales.
The floating gardens, formed from weeds collected from the lake waters themselves, symbolize an innovative and sustainable approach to agriculture. The director urged concerned officers to conduct awareness programs for vegetable growers in the region, enabling them to diversify their cultivation repertoire by incorporating new crops and varieties.
Director Chowdhry Mohammad Iqbal’s visit reflects the department’s commitment to fostering agricultural innovation and supporting local farmers in harnessing the potential of floating gardens. Through collaborative efforts and informed practices, these initiatives aim to enhance agricultural productivity while preserving the unique ecological landscape of the region.
