Police arrest drug peddler in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered a contraband substance from his possession.
A police party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Nambla Uri, intercepted a person identified as Mohd Shareef Sheikh son of Baba Sheikh resident of Nambla Uri, police said in a statement. During the search, 4.20 kg of Cannabis Powder and cash of Rs 2000 (Proceeds of narcotics) were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Uri where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Uri and an investigation has been initiated, he said.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
