Police arrest drug peddler in Shopian

SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered a contraband substance from his possession.
A police party from Police Station Zainapora under the supervision of SSP Shopian Tanushree arrested a drug peddler during a routine checkpoint at Babapora crossing, police said in a statement, adding, “The drug peddler was carrying a nylon bag and tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the alert police party. From his possession, a charas-like substance weighing about 2Kg 150 grams was recovered. He has been identified as Ghulam Mohd Dar son of Ab Raheem Dar resident of Darbagh Wachi.”
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 30/2024 under section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Zainapora and an investigation was taken up.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood,” police said, adding, “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.”
