Two drug peddlers in Anantnag, contraband substances recovered

SRINAGAR: Continuing its unwavering efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A Police party from Police Station Pahalgam laid down a naka near Higher Secondary School Kullar and intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02AR-9633 and JK02CJ-3995.
“During search of these vehicles, police party recovered about 90 Kgs of Poppy Straw. Moreover, during their personal search police party also recovered Rs. 39,000 cash from their possession. Drivers of these vehicles identified as Ubaid Gulzar Lone son of Gulzar Ahmad Lone and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Jabbar Bhat both residents of Taki Maqsood Shah Bijbehara were arrested on spot. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized,” police said in a statement.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 08/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pahalgam and investigation has been taken up.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
