SRINAGAR: Kaifa Shah, a rising star in the world of Wushu, is set to make her mark on the international stage as she gears up to represent India in the prestigious Moscow Stars Wushu Championship, scheduled from February 28 to March 05, 2024.
Kaifa Shah’s journey in Wushu began at the tender age of 7, when a visit to the Sheri Kashmir indoor stadium in Srinagar captivated her attention towards the sport. Inspired by the practitioners honing their skills, Kaifa and her sister Aliza Shah, a five-time National Medalist herself, embarked on their Wushu journey.
Since then, Kaifa Shah has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, clinching 5 national medals of various hues and dominating the state championships with 10 consecutive gold medals. However, her path to success was not without challenges. In 2021, an injury during routine practice forced her to take a year-long hiatus. Undeterred, she returned stronger in 2022, clinching a gold medal in the national championship, marking her fifth consecutive national medal.
Expressing her excitement about representing India internationally, Kaifa Shah credited her success to her resilience and the unwavering support of her family, coaches, and mentors. She thanked the Secretary of the Sports Council for their efforts in enhancing sports infrastructure, Dronacharya Awardee Mr. Kuldeep Handoo for his dedication to Wushu’s advancement, and Mr. Maqsood Rather, Secretary of District Srinagar, for his consistent support. Additionally, she acknowledged the contributions of Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, Mr. Nissar, Mr. Ramees Ahmad, Mr. Aijaz Ahmad, and Mr. Irfan Ahmad for their unparalleled coaching.
