PAMPORE: Social activist Umer Gul, a resident of Konibal Village in Saffron Town Pampore, was honored with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puruskar award in recognition of his outstanding contributions. The award, presented by Lt. Governor J&K UT Manoj Sinha at the Mubarak Mandi Jammu during the Gandhi Punyatithi event organized by the Gandhi Global Family, acknowledges Umer Gul’s exemplary service, particularly his noteworthy work in preparing Gandhi philosophy.
Umer Gul’s dedication to social and peace activism, evident throughout Jammu and Kashmir, played a crucial role in earning him this coveted honor. The award ceremony served as a testament to his tireless efforts and commitment to making a positive impact on the community.
The Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puruskar pays tribute to individuals like Umer Gul, whose selfless contributions resonate with the principles of peace and service championed by Mahatma Gandhi. This recognition underscores the significance of grassroots activism in fostering positive change and communal harmony.
In an interview with Kashmir Reader, Umer Gul expressed his joy at receiving the Mahatma Gandhi Puruskar Award during the Gandhi Punyatithi function in Jammu. He emphasized that while activists don’t work for awards, such recognition provides motivation and enthusiasm to continue their crucial work.
Umer Gul stated, “It’s crucial that this is a matter of immense joy, especially for our entire district of Pulwama.” He pledged to persist in his activism, focusing on propagating Gandhi’s global ideology and working towards establishing and sustaining peace in the region based on Gandhi’s principles.
