Pampore: In a decisive move against illegal mining activities, the Geology and Mining Department, in collaboration with Khrew police, conducted a night operation in Greenland Wuyan village of Pampore Tehsil. The operation resulted in the seizure of seven heavy chain-type machines and a JCB involved in illicit mining, as reported by officials.
The team, led by DMO Pulwama Er Mohammad Manzoor, executed the targeted operation against illegal mining, highlighting the department’s commitment to curbing such violations. The seized heavy machinery was engaged in the unauthorized extraction of minerals in Greenland Wuyan.
Authorities emphasized their zero-tolerance approach toward illegal mining, warning of stringent actions and penalties for those involved in such activities. Mining Inspector Khursheed Ahmad emphasized the department’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining through extensive drives in various areas of Pulwama district.
Geology and Mining Officer Nazir Ahmad provided details of the operation, stating that upon receiving information about illegal mining in Greenland Wuyan, DMO Pulwama and the team conducted a prompt assessment. The night-long operation resulted in the seizure of seven heavy chain-type machines and a JCB, all involved in illegal mining activities. The confiscated machinery was brought to the Geology and Mining sub-office in Khrew.
Ahmad urged individuals engaged in such illegal activities to refrain from them and encouraged them to follow legal procedures for mining operations. He emphasized that the department’s operations against illegal mining and transportation of raw materials would continue, and action would be taken based on information received.
Despite limited resources, Geology and Mining Department officials stated that they consistently conduct checkposts and operations throughout Pulwama district day and night, especially during the cold winter months. The efforts, coupled with the leadership of DMO Pulwama Er Mohammad Manzoor, have resulted in a significant reduction of almost 95 percent of illegal activities in Pulwama district.
