Alishba Jeelani shines in Beach Games 2024, clinches Bronze in Pencak Silat

Srinagar: In a stellar display of skill and determination, Alishba Jeelani, a student from DPS Srinagar, secured a bronze medal in the prestigious Beach Games 2024 held in Diu from January 04 to 11. Alishba showcased her prowess in Pencak Silat, a dynamic martial art form that integrates strikes, grappling, throwing, and weaponry.
Pencak Silat, known for its full-body fighting techniques, involves using every part of the body both defensively and offensively. It is not merely a physical defense system but also holds psychological significance. With numerous styles and schools focusing on strikes, joint manipulation, weaponry, or a combination, Alishba’s achievement highlights her proficiency in this diverse martial art.
Alishba played a pivotal role in the success of the Jammu and Kashmir team, contributing to their overall tally of 3 gold and 5 bronze medals. Notably, she also represents the Union Territory in basketball nationals, showcasing her versatility in the sporting arena.
Principal Shafaq Afshan expressed her joy, stating, “We are delighted that Alishba has etched her name in a long chain of excellence in sports established by school alumnae over the years. We wish her many more such victories in years to come.”
Chairman Mr. Vijay Dhar extended his congratulations to Alishba, emphasizing, “DPS Srinagar stands for excellence, commitment, and the fierce desire to compete. We are glad Alishba has imbibed the spirit of competitiveness and character-building that we seek to instill in our students.” The achievement adds another feather to the cap of DPS Srinagar, affirming its commitment to nurturing well-rounded and accomplished individuals.
