Defunct streetlights on vital Hajin bridge pose safety hazards

Left unrepaired for over a decade, residents seek admin’s attention

Bandipora: More than twelve years have elapsed since the streetlights on a crucial bridge in Hajin town of Bandipora district have been non-functional. Residents express frustration as the lights remain unrepaired, causing inconvenience and safety hazards for commuters.
According to residents, the Municipal Committee (MC) Hajin and district administration have seemingly ignored the persistently dysfunctional lights on the Hajin bridge, a vital connection in Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The inoperative lights have become a major concern for drivers and residents, especially during peak hours and at night.
Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local resident, said, “It becomes difficult for drivers and residents during peak hours and at night.” The defunct lights pose challenges for commuters, making navigation on the bridge cumbersome. Despite several pleas from the residents to the concerned authorities to address the issue, no action has been taken.
Transporters emphasize the difficulties of driving at night on the overbridge, noting that even the dividers are not visible in the absence of functioning streetlights. They rely solely on the headlights of their vehicles, making the situation potentially hazardous.
The residents, frustrated with the lack of response from the authorities, have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora to intervene and ensure the repair of the defunct streetlights on Hajin bridge. The bridge, being a crucial link between several villages and the district with Hajin, demands immediate attention to ensure the safety and convenience of the commuters.
Fayaz Ahmad, the Executive Officer of Hajin, assured Kashmir Reader that he would investigate the matter and take necessary steps to address the longstanding issue.
