24th Sqay Championship 2023-24 concludes with vibrant participation

• Ganderbal dominates medal tally, BOMIS Pampore claims 2nd position
• SP Traffic Tariq Ahmad Wani applauds outstanding performances

Srinagar: The 24th Sqay Championship, organized by the J&K Sqay Association affiliated with the Sqay Federation of India, concluded successfully on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Complex Polo Ground, Srinagar. The four-day championship, spanning from December 20 to 23, 2023, witnessed the active participation of approximately 500 boys and girls.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was SP Traffic Srinagar, Tariq Ahmad Wani. Special guests included Ravi Kumar (MD RK Films) and Dr Baba Firdous, Chief Seva Sung JK, while Shabir Ahmad Wani, Winter Sports head, Adil Bashir, President J&K Sqay Association, were the guests of honor on the closing ceremony. The guests of honor, along with SP Traffic Tariq Ahmad Wani, distributed trophies among the participants.
They congratulated and extended their wishes to student participants who excelled and topped the medal tally. Ganderbal’s players showcased exceptional performances, securing the first place in the overall medal tally. Birla Open Minds International School Pampore secured the second position in the championship, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The Chief Guests and Guests of Honor congratulated all participants for their active involvement in sports activities. They praised the commitment and dedication displayed by the young athletes throughout the championship. Nazir Ahmad Mir, Secretary-General of the International Council of SQAY and Founder of the Ancient traditional cultural martial art of Kashmir (SQAY), extended congratulations to all participants and medal holders.
The championship was acknowledged as a grand success, thanks to the spirited participation of the athletes. The 24th Sqay Championship not only showcased the sporting talent of the participants but also highlighted the collaborative efforts of organizers and supporters in making the event a memorable success.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Nazir Ahmad Mir said that this four-day event witnessed the participation of approximately 500 players hailing from different districts. These players actively took part in various events, and there were also selections made for many young participants during the course of the competition.
Today, the 24th UT-level Sqay Championship concluded, and our players have been selected for the 24th National Sqay Championship scheduled to take place in Jaipur. The selectors have formed a promising team, and we are hopeful that the team representing UT in Jaipur will deliver an excellent performance. Looking ahead, we anticipate maximum participation from Jammu and Kashmir UT in upcoming national events such as the National Games or the Asian Championship.
