Mirwaiz expresses grief over demise of mentor Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani

Srinagar: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of his mentor and teacher Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, popularly known as Mahad Sahab.
The deceased was a leading religious scholar from Shahr-e-Khaas and a well-known businessman. He had a very deep association with the Mirwaz family as had studied religion and learnt in the company of Mirwaizeen particularly Mirwaiz Atiq Ullah Sahab, for whom he had the highest regard.
Mahad Sahab was one of the mentors of ‘Shaheed-e-Millat’ Maulana Mohammad Farooq when he became the Mirwaz at the age of 17, and again of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq when he became the Mirwaiz in 1990.
In a statement, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid tributes to Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani Sahab for his dedication and support to him in grooming him to become the Mirwaiz and termed his demise as a great personal loss.
Mirwaiz, who also led the funeral prayers of the deceased, praised his teacher’s knowledge, affection, compassion, prudence and understanding as a religious scholar and his deep respect for the contribution of the Mirwaizeen in the field of religious education and its dissemination.
He said that Late Mahad Sahab was his true mentor and a person with a deep understanding of the traditional concept and style of Waaz Khwani in Kashmir. Mirwaiz said that Late Mahad Sahab had trained a large number of students and he himself was a huge beneficiary of his religious knowledge and his spiritual personality.
Mirwaiz expressed his condolences to all the bereaved family members of the deceased, especially his son Khursheed Ahmad Wani, and prayed for Jannat-ul-Firdous for the departed soul.
