Islamia College crowned champions of Yousuf Memorial Cricket Tournament

Clinches title with convincing victory

Srinagar: In a thrilling final showdown, Islamia College emerged victorious in the Yousuf Memorial Cricket Tournament held at the Islamia College Cricket Field on Saturday, November 25. The host team faced off against ASC in a highly anticipated match.
Winning the toss, Islamia College elected to bat first, setting the stage for an impressive batting display. The opening batsmen showcased their skills, with Captain Hurrair Sofi contributing 40 runs off 30 deliveries. However, the star of the day was Quanain, who played a spectacular innings, scoring 87 runs off just 34 balls with towering sixes and delightful boundaries. The innings concluded at a formidable 208 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
ASC faced a challenging task, losing two wickets in the very first over. Despite some flashes of brilliance from Captain Moomin (28) and Hashim (26), the team was eventually bundled out for a paltry 94 runs with 4 overs remaining. Islamia College’s Hurrair claimed 4 wickets, while Quanian took 2, securing a comprehensive victory for Islamia College by 114 runs.
The match showcased great camaraderie between the two teams, both on and off the field. Hurrair, for his consistent performance throughout the tournament, was adjudged the Man of the Series, while Quanian earned the Man of the Match trophy for his outstanding contribution in the final.
A grand prize distribution ceremony followed the match, with Dr. Khurshid A Khan, Principal of ICSC, Dr. Shiekh Ajaz Bashir – Nodal Principal (Kashmir Division), Deans, Heads of various departments, and members of the College Sports Committee ICSC in attendance. The winning and runner-up teams received trophies along with individual medals, and match officials were presented with mementos.
The tournament, organized in a knockout championship format, witnessed the participation of 24 teams. Dr. Mir Haneif of the Department of English hosted the concluding ceremony, and Prof Majid, Staff Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. Principal ICSC commended the Physical Education Department for organizing a successful tournament, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and competition. The final match drew a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators.
