SKUAST-K holds awareness, free distribution of animal nutrients among Pulwama farmers

Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised an awareness-cum-distribution program on multi-nutrient block (MNB) supplements for ruminant livestock.
The awareness was organised by the SKUAST-K’s Division of Animal Nutrition, FVSc & AH, Shuhama in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra at the KVK campus Malangpora.
The aim of the program was to create awareness among livestock farmers about the use and importance of MNB.
The programme was part of a continued activity carried under DAHD-NLM funded project ‘Sustainable livelihood improvement of resource-poor farmers through livestock productivity augmentation by standardization and popularization of value-added animal feed supplements in Kashmir Himalayas’.
Director, Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, who was the chief guest, stressed upon the participating farmers to adopt scientific practices in farming for making it lucrative. Head, KVK, Pulwama, Dr Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, while speaking on the occasion thanked the Division of Animal Nutrition for their proactive approach in addressing the farmers’ issue. Prof Abdul Majeed Ganai, HoD, Division of Animal Nutrition highlighted the activities of the Division and stressed on the importance of balanced feeding of animals. Dr Yasir Afzal, PI of the project gave a detailed lecture on the use and method of feeding of these MNBs and also highlighted the role of these blocks in balanced feeding. On the occasion, MNB supplements were also distributed among 50 participating farmers free of cost.
