2 SKUAST-K students to visit Italy for sandwich program

Srinagar: Two students from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir are set to embark on a transformative educational journey to Italy.
Talib Bashir and Tajamul Hussain, both pursuing PhD at the Division of Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Forestry will attend a Sandwich Program at the University of Catania in Italy under the URGENT project.
This unique opportunity aims to provide the students with specialized guidance on urban resilience and adaptation and use of GIS which are crucial elements for their doctoral research. They will be under the mentorship of renowned experts, Dr Daniele La Rosa and Dr Riccardo Privitera, during their stay at the University of Catania.
Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, commended Prof Akhlaq Amin Wani, Head, NRM and PI URGENT project, for coordinating the exchange program. He emphasized the importance of acquiring global skills and affirmed the university’s vision of becoming a hub of global education.
Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Prof SA Gangoo, said the international exposure is expected to significantly contribute to the academic and professional growth of the students.
The URGENT project in the recent past has facilitated international exchange of faculty members also including Dr Akhlaq Amin Wani, Dr Aasif Ali Gatoo and Dr Shah Murtaza who visited renowned institutions such as the University of Catania in Italy, Estonian University of Life Sciences, and the National University of Mongolia.
Dr Akhlaq Amin Wani, on this occasion, expressed his commitment to furthering such exchange programs under the project, both within and outside the country for faculty and students. The collaborative efforts of SKUAST-K and the URGENT project are paving the way for a dynamic and globally engaged academic community.
