KVK Malangpora distributes free quality lentil seeds to boost Rabi crop production

Pulwama: In a significant initiative to enhance agricultural productivity and support local farmers, the SKUAST-Kashmir’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Extension Training Centre (ETC) Malangpora Pulwama Conducted a third phase Seed distribution programme under CFLD, funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) -Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Ludhiana pulses for the Rabi 2023 season.
The event took place in the Renzipora and Koil clusters of Pulwama district, where 100 farmers were provided with high-quality lentil seeds, covering an average of 20 hectares, free of cost, officials told Kashmir Reader.
During the programme, experts from KVK-ETC Malangpora Pulwama imparted valuable knowledge to farmers, offering a comprehensive package of practices essential for the cultivation of high-quality lentils.
The farmers received guidance on the best agricultural practices, ensuring a successful lentil harvest and, subsequently, boosting their income.
The programme aimed not only to increase crop production but also to indirectly enhance soil fertility, leading to higher yields in future crops, KVK head Dr Javaid Ahmad Mugloo told Kashmir Reader.
Mugloo expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the potential of lentil cultivation in the region. He emphasized that besides generating additional income for the farmers, lentil cultivation would contribute significantly to improving soil fertility, thereby benefiting subsequent crops. The farmers, in turn, expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for the efforts of KVK Pulwama, showing great enthusiasm for adopting lentil cultivation practices.
This initiative signifies a positive step towards sustainable agriculture and economic development in the Pulwama district, demonstrating the collaborative efforts of KVK Pulwama, farmers, and agricultural experts in the district.
