Tral (Pulwama): In a heartwarming development, nearly 400 families in the Sub Division Tral area of Pulwama district, South Kashmir, who were once homeless, now have the security of permanent homes, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin initiative. These families, who previously lived in makeshift sheds and tents, have received a lifeline through the Aripal block in Tral.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a total of 396 families were identified and chosen as beneficiaries, eliciting heartfelt gratitude from the recipients towards the central government and the Department of Rural Development, as reported by Kashmir Reader. The local residents, who had faced the brunt of homelessness, praised the department for its transparent selection process. The initiative specifically targeted those living in makeshift shelters, ensuring that the neediest individuals were identified and assisted promptly.
Among the beneficiaries is Rahati Banu, whose story epitomizes the transformative power of this initiative. Rahati, who used to reside in a precarious temporary shed, lived under constant threat due to her vulnerable living conditions. Today, she wears a smile of immense joy and relief as she steps into her completed home, made possible by the initiative’s intervention. Her story resonates with hundreds of others, offering a glimmer of hope and a fresh start in life.
At the heart of this success is the unwavering dedication of the Development Officer of the block and the Rural Development Department Officials. Their meticulous efforts ensured that deserving individuals received their rightful homes. The first installment for constructing houses under the scheme has been released to eligible beneficiaries, with ongoing efforts to disburse the second installment, marking a steady progress toward the completion of this initiative.
Muneer, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Aripal block, emphasized the positive impact of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin. He highlighted that 396 eligible beneficiaries in Aripal block have received houses in the current financial year, underlining the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of the economically weaker sections who lacked homes. He affirmed the department’s determination to finish all the houses by the year’s end, a testament to their efficiency and dedication. Additionally, he mentioned the concurrent initiative of providing 100 days of employment under NAREGA, ensuring not only roofs over heads but also sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries.
NAREGA and PMAY have become transformative agents, significantly improving the lives of the people in Aripal block. Decision-making has become a collective effort through Gram Sabha meetings, empowering the community to plan and implement development initiatives tailored to their unique needs. These initiatives have not only provided physical shelter but also instilled a sense of empowerment and community among the residents.
The local residents, profoundly impacted by these initiatives, expressed their gratitude towards the government. They stressed the importance of extending support to vulnerable segments of the population, particularly the elderly villagers and senior citizens, urging a more inclusive approach in future initiatives. Additionally, they emphasized the need to promote cleanliness campaigns under the Panchayat initiatives, recognizing the importance of holistic development in their region.
Abdul Rasheed Dar, a resident from Wagad Aripal, acknowledged the government’s support under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He commended the assistance provided to extremely poor families, highlighting the transformative impact on landless individuals without any means of income. The government’s intervention, coupled with the dedicated efforts of the BDO and staff, has not only provided homes but also restored dignity and hope to the marginalized.
In essence, these initiatives stand as a testament to the government’s commitment to social welfare and equitable development. Through these efforts, lives have been transformed, families have been uplifted, and hope has been restored. As approximately 400 formerly homeless individuals settle into their new homes, it signifies more than just a change in address – it symbolizes a brighter, more secure future for the people of Tral.
