Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti Women Cricket Friendlies from Oct 8-12

Srinagar: As part of Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav, Women Cricket Friendly matches are being organised by Indian Army along with Aseem Foundation, Pune from 08 to 12 October 2023 at Sopore, Chandigam and Hajin. These matches are receiving overwhelming response across Kashmir.
The first match was played between Aseem Eleven and Sopore Thunder Strikers at Subhana Stadium, Sopore. In a keenly contested match Aseem XI were put to bat first & they set up a target of 99 runs. Sopore Thunder Strikers emerged victorious by five wickets. The sporting spirit and support displayed by the spectators is testimony to the rich culture and encouragement to women in sports across Kashmir.
This unique endeavour has sent a strong signal of ‘Women Empowerment’ for women cricketers of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir who showcased their talent and standards to all. Players and locals hailed the efforts of the Indian Army and Aseem Foundation, Pune and urged them to organise similar tournaments in future as well, as such tournaments would encourage the local players and help them to compete at National level.
“The Chief Guest for the event was Veer Nari Mrs ZarinaAkhter w/o L/Nk (Late) Gh Mohd Khan, a Vir Chakra awardee of the Kargil War. Gh Mohd Khan made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War in 1999. For his valour and gallant action, Gh Mohd was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously,” PRO Defence said in a statement.
He added, “The organisers, participating teams & spectators paid their heartfelt tribute to the bravehearts of the Kargil War. The event was attended by GOC Kilo Force, Government officials and large number of youth and locals from the adjoining areas.”
