Uri Premier League gives platform to youth to showcase talent

Srinagar: As a testament to commitment towards community engagement and fostering strong bonds with citizens, Indian Army organised Uri Premier League (UPL), a T20 cricket tournament.
The tournament not only promoted sportsmanship among the youth but also enhanced the soldier-citizen connect, PRO (Defence), Srinagar said in a statement.
The tournament was conducted for Uri tehsil where teams from more than 50 villages participated in the tournament from 05 Jun to 20 Aug 2023. A total of 69 teams were part of the tournament who played matches on a knockout basis. 16 teams qualified for pre-quarter finals and semi-finals was conducted on 11 and 12 Aug 2023.
The final was played between Rising Salamabad and Rebel Cricket Club Jabla on 20 Aug 2023 at the Kalapahar Ground to a packed house of local youth and elders. The Chief Guest for the final was Maj Gen Rajesh Sethi, GOC Dagger Div. The winning team and runners up team were presented with trophies and handsome cash prizes by the Chief Guest.
The final event was highly patronized by the civilians and more than 2500 spectators attended the final. The complete tournament and the grand finale were highly appreciated by the citizens as it gave a platform to the youth to showcase their talent. “Efforts of the Indian Army to showcase local sportsmen were applauded by all,” the PRO said.
