Kashmiri language will help students understand our culture: Prof Shad Ramzan
Pampore: An extension lecture on the Sufi poetry of Wahab Sahab (RA) was organized by the Department of Kashmiri in collaboration with GDC Debates and Seminar Committee Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
The lecture at GDC Academic Conference hall was organized under the supervision of Principal Prof Dr Huda Galzai. The guest speaker at the seminar was Prof Shad Ramzan, Convenor Kashmiri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, GDC Pampore officials told Kashmir Reader.
The programme commenced with the formal Inaugural address presented by Prof. Dr Huda Galzai. In her inaugural address, the Principal dwelled upon the importance of holding such literary programmes to chisel the creative abilities of students and make them aware of the rich literary traditions of Kashmir.
It was followed by an extension lecture by Prof Shad Ramzan who spoke amply on the Sufi contributions of Wahab Sahab (RA). The lecture also dwelled upon the importance of reading Sufi literature and how Sufi Poetry has contributed to keeping the Kashmiri language alive.
He also highlighted the role of Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA).
The lecture was attended by GDC Pampore officials, faculty members and a large number of students of the college. It was followed by a question and answer session in which many students and faculty participated actively.
Moreover, the poetry recitation session was held in which many students recited the poetry of Wahab Sahab (RA) and scintillated the whole audience present there. A memento was presented to the revered guest by Prof Dr Huda Galzai.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Prof. Iqbal Malik. The whole session was moderated by Prof. Samiullah Rather, Head Department of Kashmiri.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, Professor Shad Ramzan, Convenor Kashmiri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi said, “Kashmiri is our mother tongue, students should learn Kashmiri as a language along with other subjects. It will help them in understanding their cultural heredity and identity.”
He said that Wahab Khar Sahab was a great Sufi poet of Kashmir and Government Degree College Pampore organised a seminar on him for which he is thankful to Principal GDC Pulwama, Prof Dr Huda Galzai.
He said that through this seminar, the students of the college learned about local Sufi poets like Wahab Khar Sahab and Habba Khatoon and Lad Ded and their contribution to Kashmir literature.
