Elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats in 3 states on July 24

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal would be held on July 24.
Among the seats that are being vacated due to the term of the MP’s ending is External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s seat from Gujarat. Jaishankar, Dineshchandra Jemalbhai Anavadiya and Lokhandwala Jugalsinh Mathurji are the three BJP MPs from Gujarat whose terms are ending on August 18.
One seat from Goa will also go to the polls as the term of the BJP MP, Vinay D. Tendulkar, ends on July 28. Six seats from West Bengal will go to polls as the term of Trinamool Congress MPs Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sushmita Dev, Shanta Chhetri and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya ends on August 18.
The notification for the polls would be issued on July 6, the last date of nominations would be July 13 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be July 17. Polling and counting would be held on July 24.
The EC also announced the same schedule for bye-election to one seat from West Bengal, which fell vacant upon the resignation of Trinamool Congress MP Luizinho Joaquim Faleiro on April 11. His term was valid till April 2, 2026.
