Grand farewell accorded to Mir Imtiyaz Hussain on his transfer from Pampore

People shower praises on the police officer, many turn emotional

PAMPORE: In a first of its kind, a grand farewell was given to Jammu and Kashmir Police officer Mir Imtiyaz Hussain by the general public of the Saffron town Pampore on his transfer from Police Sub Division Pampore to Khanyar area of Srinagar. Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad was SDPO Pampore since 2009.
For three consecutive days, people from various areas of the tehsil visited the police station Pampore to bid a goodbye to the outgoing police officer. They were seen presenting him with bouquets, shawls, garlands and other souvenirs.
Emotional scenes were also witnessed and some civilians broke into tears after learning about the transfer of Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad. The civil society members too held a farewell party in honour of Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad.
A function was held in this regard at Police Station Pampore which was organised by the Fallah Behbood Committee, senior citizens with other civil society members of Pampore and officials of Tehsil Office Pampore. The function was attended by a large number of people, civil society members, senior citizens, media persons and local sarpanchs.
Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat also attended the farewell function. He hailed Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad as a sincere, dedicated and honest police officer.
The civil society members including Mohammad Ashraf Reshi, Mir Murwat Hussain, Haji Abdul Rashid Bhat, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Sarpanch Junaid Ahmad and police officers including SHO Khrew Manzoor Ahmad, Sub Inspector Muneer Ahmad.
Civil society members presented souvenirs as a goodwill gesture to the outgoing officer and wished him the best for his future assignment as SDPO. The participants appreciated SDPO Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad. They hailed him for taking a number of measures for youth engagement, curbing drug addiction and checking various social evils.
Mir Murwat Hussain, Moulana Mohammad Ashraf Reshi, Abdul Rashid Bhat and Mohammad Afzal Bhat recalled pro-people services rendered by Mir Imtiyaz Hussain during his tenure as SDPO Pampore. They said that he used to treat everybody with respect.
“Mir Imtiyaz Hussain Sahib used to address the distress calls even during the dead of night,” they said, adding that he developed an emotional attachment with the locals and they used to send him a first invitation on occasions of social gatherings, marriage ceremonies and various sports events.
“Today I am here to say goodbye to Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad, who has been transferred to the Khanyar area of Srinagar,” Haji Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Pampore told Kashmir Reader, adding that they will miss him for being very polite to young and old and performing his duties in an honest manner.
“He used to give a patient hearing to people and try to help them in every possible way,” he said, adding that his role in curbing drug peddling and solving other cases of crime is commendable.
Meanwhile, Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad has assumed charge as SDPO Khanyar.
