Army celebrates Yoga Day across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The 9th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with full enthusiasm and gusto in keeping with the spirit of Yoga Day 2023 theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam” at various locations in Kashmir Valley on 21 June 2023, with primary objective to promote Yoga as a holistic practice for mental and physical wellbeing.
PRO (Defence) Srinagar in a statement said, “Aimed at spreading awareness about the benefits of Yoga, Indian Army organized yoga sessions for the troops deployed at far flung area under extreme weather condition and rugged terrain. Yoga was also conducted in BB Cantt & Dal Lake in Srinagar along with other prominent places like Navyug Tunnel, Kaman Setu and Haiderbaig. Civil administration and local Kashmiri populace also joined hands with Indian Army to make the event a grand success.”
The successful conduct of the event across the Kashmir Valley demonstrates resolve of local populace to embrace the peace and tranquility of the region and presented picture of ‘Naya Kashmir’ to the world, he said.
Dir Agri addresses Kissan Sampark Abhiyan in Shopian
SRINAGAR: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal on Wednesday visited Wachi Shopian and addressed Kisan Sampark Abhiyan (Farmers Orientation Programme) under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) being held from 24th of April – 31st of August 2023.
Addressing the programme, Director Agriculture highlighted the importance of Kissan Sampark Abhiyan and asked farmers to actively participate in such programmes in order to get maximum benefits from the approved projects under HADP for agriculture and allied sectors.
He impressed upon the concerned officers to increase the awareness among the farmers about modern tools and techniques that have been incorporated in HADP to overcome the prevailing constraints and use different extension methods to motivate the farming community in adoption of proposed interventions in the approved projects.
Director Agriculture also distributed PGS (Participatory Guarantee System) Organic Certificates among the 23 farmers of Wachi Village.
During interaction with these farmers, Director Agriculture said the quality seed is the most critical and basic requirement of a good harvest. He said farmers having access to high quality seed are likely to achieve desirable crop production and earn more income.
He said under the development of the seed and seed multiplication chain project of HADP, the main aim is to achieve self-sufficiency in quality seed production vis-a-vis strengthening the seed multiplication and marketing chain with improved human resource development.
Later, the Director Agriculture along with the Chief Agriculture Officer visited Jablipora fruit and vegetable Mandi and inspected the ongoing packaging and transportation of garlic. He interacted with the stakeholders and received feedback regarding recent interventions by the department for the development of garlic cultivation in the area.
