KVK Ganderbal showcases drone technology, organizes series of events under Mission LiFE

SRINAGAR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal organised series of awareness programmes, workshops and campaigns under Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) from May 20 to June 5, 2023 in the district. The aim of the events was to promote awareness about Mission LiFE among farmers, students, rural youth and local masses of the District Ganderbal.
Awareness regarding sophisticated drone technology interventions in Agriculture & Allied sectors was demonstrated for the benefit of farmers and agripreneurs on May 29 and 31 by the scientists of the KVK.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, SMS KVK Ganderbal gave a comprehensive overview and thorough practical demonstration to trainees about application of drones in agriculture and allied sector with an emphasis on reduction in use of chemicals & fertilizers for preventing environmental degradation.
On May 30, awareness programme on Promotion of Climate Resilient Poultry breeds (Keystone Golden, Australop) was organised at the KVK campus. The participants were made aware about brood management, health management & maintenance of environment to prevent climate related stress and mitigating climate change in poultry by Dr. Shaheen Farooq, SMS Animal Science.
Kisan Goshtis were organised at Repora Ganderbal on the theme ‘Promotion of Climate Resilient Seeds’. Dr. Rafiya Munshi, SMS KVK Ganderbal described that climate resilient seeds can withstand extreme environmental conditions like drought & flooding and are high yielding and nutritious.
World Environment Day was celebrated on June 5 at KVK campus in collaboration with Boys High School, Khalmulla. On the occasion, Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Ganderbal highlighted the importance of Environment for healthy living and existence of life on the Planet and signified the need of protecting the Environment to ensure sustainability of resources.
Debate, quiz and painting competitions were organised to motivate and encourage the students to understand the threats faced by the ecosystems. Exemplary students were felicitated with prizes. A plantation drive was also organised in which the KVK staff & students planted trees in the KVK campus. More than seventy students participated in the event with zeal & fervour. The events during the programme were cohesively carried out by the scientists of KVK Ganderbal for which good feedback was received.
