Anjuman Auqaf seeks release of Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid has said that it will be two hundred Fridays in two weeks since Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq has been barred from attending Friday prayers and delivering the important sermon at the central Jama Masjid due to his continued house arrest since 5 August 2019 “without any reason” being provided by the authorities.
Anjuman in a statement said that it along with the people fails to understand that “if all is under control as the authorities claim and even international conferences can be held here, then what is the fear the authorities have”?
“Due to his arbitrary house arrest, Mirwaiz is unable to perform his institutional duties including social, reformative and educational responsibilities, which is very unfortunate. This is depriving the community of an important indigenous resource, woven into the cultural social and religious ethos of the people and playing an important part in their development and growth as a community,” it said.
Anjuman said that it appeals to the all human rights organisations including the National Human Rights Commission, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and to play their role in ensuring the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
