Farmers hail govt for showcasing local agriculture produce during G20 summit

Pampore: The agriculture department is set to showcase different agriculture products during the G20 meet in Srinagar.
Director Agriculture Kashmir Mohammad Iqbal Chaudhary said that they will be showcasing all local agriculture products for the benefit of farmers.
The decision has been welcomed and appreciated by different farmers across Kashmir.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, President Saffron Growers Association Abdul Majeed Wani, said that the farmer community in Kashmir has been elated by the government’s decision to showcase various agriculture products during the G20 summit in Srinagar. He said that the summit which will be held from 22 to 24 May is not just a meeting.
It is an effort by the government to promote local tourism, and various agricultural products like saffron, walnuts, almond and apple.
“Every sector will get promoted and we appreciate the government for this,” he said, adding that the summit means that local produce of Kashmir is taken to the global market which will benefit farmers who will get a good rate.
Wani expressed hope that through this summit local farmer sees overall progress and growth. “There will be overall economic progress for all people,” he said, adding that they welcome and appreciate the government.
He said that Kashmiri Saffron is GI-tagged and they will introduce it to the visiting delegates along with other products like apples, walnuts, almonds and other food items. “They will take to their respective home countries,” he said, adding that they hope to get orders from these countries so that farmers get benefited.
“We hope that by organising the G20 summit in Srinagar tourism, agriculture, and handicraft industries will get a boost,” he said.
Another saffron grower said that apart from walnuts, mushk budji; saffron will also be displayed at various venues during the G20 summit. He said it will be also presented to the delegates as one among a list of souvenirs.
“This will add to its global reputation and overall benefit will trickle down to Saffron growers,” he said, adding that global marketing will increase its prices.
