Awantipora: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, IUST organized Math Festival in Larnoo Anantnag this year as a math outreach initiative. The festival held in Government Degree College Larnoo was attended by more than a hundred students wherein different mathematical problems were explained to them using local examples.
Besides organizing different practical sessions with the students, several math stalls were installed on mathematical topics like 4th dimension, math & art, soap bubble &honeycomb math, clock arithmetic, estimation of pi, etc. The students enthusiastically participated in the festival.
Prof. Fozia Qazi, Head Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Peer Bilal and other faculty members of the department held different sessions during the program.
The department has also organised many such program previously in remote areas as part of its IMPACT program to alleviate math phobia among school children. The event was sponsored by Arco Cements.
