G20: KASHMIR ABUZZ WITH SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Srinagar, May 16: The Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K is organising numerous activities in different games and sports in connection with the forthcoming important event of G20 meeting.
As per the official communique issued by the Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, Kashmir all the District Youth Services and Sports Officers of the Kashmir division have been directed to ensure maximum participation of Youth in general and students in particular in different games and sports to create awareness about the scheduled important event of G20 meeting being conducted at Srinagar under India’s presidency.
While following the directions, a huge number of youth belonging to different age groups was flagged-off for a long distance road race by Senior Officers of the Department from the premises of Indoor Stadium Wazir Bagh Srinagar. The race culminated at Government High School Rawalpora Srinagar. 225 of U/14, 290 of U/17 and 165 student athletes of U/19 age group participated in the event subsequently.
Later, an impressive closing ceremony was organised to felicitate the first three position holders of all the three age groups. Gaurav Sikarwar a senior police officer attended the function as Chief Guest who in his thought provoking speech appreciated the participants of the road race and hoped that youth in general and girls in particular would continue participating in such events for their mental and physical growth.
SHO Saddar Mudasir Nazar, Headmaster GHS Rawalpora and senior officers and officials of the Youth Services and Sports Department were also present in the function.
Similarly, in another such activity organised by the District Youth Services and Sports Office Pulwama, a unique and attractive event was organised to aware people especially school children about G20 and India’s presidency was at Birla School Pampore
The ‘G-20 Yoga’ event was on Tuesday inaugrated by ZPEO Pampore in presence of Principal Birla school. A large number of more than 600 students from different educational institutions of the District performed different Asnas of Yoga under the guidance of professionally trained Yoga Teachers.
While throwing light on the physical and mental benefits of Yoga, the speakers stated that Yoga helps teenagers improve their physical fitness and offers incredible benefits to teenagers as they grow, including improved posture and spine health, flexibility, balance, strength and coordination.
While highlighting the importance of forthcoming G-20 event, the speakers hoped that the students and people in general would gather the basic information pertaining to this important event as it is the first ever G20 summit to be held in India as well as in South Asia.
In another such activity held at Dangiwacha Baramullah, a Road Race under the banner of G-20 Summit Activities was flagged-off, by a senior police officer. More than 200 Boys participated in the event. ZPEO Dangiwacha & Headmaster GHS Watergam were also present in the event.
The long distance race flagged-Off from Chatloora Mode, culminated at HSS Dangiwacha. Students from 38 Government and private schools took part in the race. Award/Closing Ceremony also took place at HSS Dangiwacha wherein Medals & Certificates were distributed among the position holders.
In central Kashmir’s Budgam district, an “Anti Drug Rally” under the banner of G-20 Presidency of India was conducted. The rally started at 10:00 am from the Government BHS Narbal to ZPEO office Narbal. More than 400 students from government as well as private schools across zone Narbal participated. Before inaugurating the Rally ZPEO Narbal Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, incharge police station Narbal Ashiq Hussain along with other dignitaries of civil society Narbal, Department’s field staff from zone Narbal and participants took the pledge of educating people about the ill effects of drug menace.
Pertinently, the activities in connection with G-20 meeting shall continue till 31st of the current month and the whole UT is buzzing with the activities pertaining to the scheduled important event.
