70-year-old man dies after hit by vehicle at Lethpora highway

PAMPORE: A 70-year-old man died in a road accident on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in the Lethpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ramzan Magray, 70, son of Abdul Rahim Magray, a resident of Lethpora.
The locals informed Kashmir Reader that a vehicle hit the old man when he was crossing the national highway at Lethpora. They said the driver escaped from the spot after the accident.
The old man received serious head injuries in the mishap and was immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital Pampore where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
A pall of gloom descended in Lethpora, the native village of the deceased when the news of his death spread.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people from different walks of life participated in the funeral prayers of the deceased.
After an investigation, police located the driver of the vehicle.
Police officials told Kashmir Reader that the driver, Bilal Ahmad Dar of Anantnag was arrested and his Alto car involved in the accident was seized.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while a case FIR bearing registration number 79/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora.
