Portion of old highway Sempora damaged; residents demand repair

Pampore: Commuters traveling on the old national highway and residents of Saffron Town Pampore and adjoining areas have appealed to authorities of the R&B department to repair the damaged portion of the old highway in the Sempora area.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, they said that the old national highway near Tangnar lift irrigation scheme and police checking point Sempora has developed many potholes.
This newspaper received complaints from various commuters about the dilapidated condition of the road. They said the important road leading is being neglected by the authorities and is dotted with potholes at many places.
They said the potholes become stagnant with rain water which causes a lot of inconvenience for passersby “The authorities level the road with boulders and pebbles which erode due to heavy rush of vehicles plying on this busy road,” they said, adding that they requested the authorities to macadamize the damaged portion of the highway but to no avail.
The residents said they face problems while ferrying patients to Srinagar.
“The damaged portion of the road also gives bumpy rides to students and employees who use this route on a daily basis for traveling to Srinagar,” they said, adding that Sempora is the entry point to Srinagar smart city and as such this road serves as a nuisance to onlookers.
When contacted, the concerned Assistant Executive Engineer R&B, Kaisar Abdullah assured of looking into the issue. “We will redress this issue as soon as weather conditions improve. We will definitely repair the road,” he said.
