Police arrest 3 drug peddlers in Awantipora, Budgam

Srinagar: Acting tough against the menace of drugs, police have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party of PS Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Beighpora- Gulzarpora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK13A-8760 driven by Arif Ahmad Dar son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar resident of Renzipora Awantipora. During checking, 11 kgs of grinded poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Besides, the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
In Budgam, a police party at a checkpoint established at Pakherpora Zanigam, intercepted a vehicle (Taveera) bearing registration number PB01-9331 with 02 persons onboard. They have been identified as Nadeem Ahmad Ganai son of Ab Rehman Ganai resident of Sonpah Beerwah and Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Gh Rasool Mir resident of Waragam Beerwah. During search 1.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 40 grams of Charas powder was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
