Block Diwas strengthening foundation of local governance: DC Pulwama

Says motive is to listen to locals, redress their grievances

 

AWANTIPORA: Deputy commissioner Pulwama Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary on Wednesday visited Awantipora where he listened to the grievances of the public during Block Diwas. The DC was accompanied by SSP Awantipora Ajaz Ahmad Zargar, ADC Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, Tehsildar Awantipora Shakeel Ahmad, besides various officials.

The programme was attended by the officers/officials of various departments, besides by the scores of people of the Awantipora Tehsil.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that redressing public grievances is the first priority of the district administration. He sought an action taken report on all the previous issues projected by the local people and also passed directions for early redressal of their grievances.

On the occasion, the DC said that such programmes are proving to make the planning processes/ development processes all over the District youth-centric.

He further said that education is the only way that can contribute to the overall and inclusive development of Awantipora town and society. He stressed making the area drug-free to make the future of the youth safe and secure.

He directed the concerned officers to complete the ongoing projects, Roads, & bridges. He also urged them to complete the work within the shortest possible time.

On the occasion, SSP Awantipora Ajaz Ahmad Zargar said that curbing drug peddling will be one of their priority and second they will focus on grievance redressal.

“Our DG Sahab has launched an online app on which will be giving feedback so that your grievances are redressed on time,” he said, adding as a unit of district administration they will work in the area for peace and stability.

Mohammad Lateef Bhat, a civil society member from Awantipora raised many issues regarding basic amenities and different services like the construction of interior roads in the town, the release of outstanding land compensation payments to landholders, SRTC bus service from Awantipora to Srinagar, providing of forest sale depot in the area, drinking water issues in the area and relocation of filtration Pump, upgradation of High School to Higher Secondary School, upgradation in healthcare facilities, etc.

Meanwhile, DC Pulwama told Kashmir Reader that the LG administration is focused on involving youth in planning so that development becomes as per the needs and aspirations of the local people.
