DC Pulwama inaugurates Big Bash T20 Cricket Tournament in Pampore

Shining star Pampore win inaugural match

PAMPORE: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary and SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad on Tuesday jointly inaugurated Big Bash T-20 Cricket Tournament at Iqbal Stadium Tanchibagh Pampore.

The tournament was organized by local youth of Saffron Town Pampore including Mohammad Ashraf Malik, Arif Chat, Aqib Mir, Mehraj-Ud-Din Chat and Zahid Mohi-Ud-Din, in presence of ADC Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat and SHO Pampore Zahoor Ahmad

As many as 32 cricket teams from different areas of Kashmir and a team from Uttar Pradesh are participating in the tournament.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary interacted with cricketers from Uttar Pradesh, Pampore and cricketers from Valley.

ZPO Pampore Masrat Hussain Andrabi, AEE MC Pampore Mohammad Iqbal, AEE R&B Mushtaq Ahmad, civil society members including Haji Abdul Rasheed Bhat Chairman Spectrum Advertising Agency and other sports personalities were also present.

The tournament is being organised to promote sports-related spirit in the Saffron town and give young and promising talent.

Bhat Adil, a civil society member from Pampore told Kashmir Reader that the tournament is organised by a group of local youth and around 32 teams are participating in the tournament.

“Everyone is happy over this tournament because it will help in reviving cricket in the saffron town,” he said, adding that they do not want to hamper kids from using Iqbal stadium from playing cricket and for this reason, there will be two days off in a week.

The DC Pulwama told Kashmir Reader that the tournament will help in the revival of cricket in Pampore and channelising the energy of youth in a positive direction. He said the administration is committed to supporting youth in creating a vibrant sports culture in Kashmir.

He said that the participation of teams from different areas of the UT and out of UT sends a big message.

Talking about the cricket tournament, the DC said our youths are mentally and physically healthy through such tournaments. He said that today’s tournament is unique in this sense because apart from Jammu and Kashmir, players from other states are also participating in this tournament.

Sachin, a young cricketer from UP state, told Kashmir Reader that their team is participating in the tournament. “We were invited by Aqib Bhai with whom we were already in contact,” he said, adding that he asked his friends and all of them agreed to play. He said people here are very nice who have provided free-of-cost accommodation to them at Pampore.

Civil society members from Pampore, Haji Abdul Rashid Bhat and Nisar Ahmad Malik appealed to DC Pulwama to develop the Iqbal stadium at Tanchibagh Pampore.

They said that local youth have curated the pitch and levelled the ground on their own. They apprised Deputy Commissioner Pulwama that the playground is in dilapidated condition.

The first match of the tournament was played between Shining Star Pampore and Kashmir Tigers, which the spectators thoroughly enjoyed. The inaugural match was won by Shining star Pampore by 28 runs.
