Meet Dr Suna Ullah, a prolific writer from Pampore who has penned 8 books

His latest book ‘Shama-e-Irfan’ is ‘a message for youth’

 

PAMPORE: A retired education official, a prolific writer from the Namblabal area of Saffron Town Pampore, Dr Suna Ullah Ahangar alias Suna Ullah Pampori, has penned eight books on different subjects.

Recently, he published his new book ‘Shama-e-Irfan’. The books include Guli Zaffron, Saffron Flower and Pampore, Kongposh Te Pampore, Arbi Zuban Wa Adab Ke Tanazir Me and Khalil Murden Bek.

In his books, he has written about the saffron of Pampore and saints like Khwaja Masood Wali (RA) alias Khuja Soob and Sheikh Shareef Ud Din alias Shokh Bab Sahab.

Dr Suna Ullah has a doctorate in Arabic and served in the education department in different capacities like principal Government Degree College and higher secondary before retirement.

Talking to Kashmir Reader Dr Suna Ullah said that he was inclined towards writing from an early age. “I used to pen down on some occasions and ‘Humara Manfi Kirdaar’ was my first book,” he said, adding that after writing a thesis for his doctorate degree, he turned to book writing with full devotion.

He added that in 2005, he wrote a book on saffron in Kashmiri and then also translated it into English and Urdu. “In the book on saffron, I have detailed how this prized crop was transported from Spain to Pampore and other areas of Kashmir,” he said.

Afterward, I wrote another book, Kawakibi K Khidmaat Arbi Zubaan e Adab Kay Tanzir Me, Dr Sana Ullah said, adding that he authored Usmani Khilafat Aur Malookiyat Shaam.

Shama-e-Irfan is his recent publication which took him 18 years to complete. “I was in service when I started working on Shama-e-Irfaan. The book is different in content as it deals with modern-day problems like drug addiction, falling book reading habits and technology overdependence,” he said, adding that the book is a message for Muslims, especially youth.

“It reflects the present scenario of our society like drug addiction, mobile phone dependence and avoidance of book reading,” he said. His message to youth is to read books because it is an intellectual activity.
