Party workers in Pampore review arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’

PAMPORE: Senior Congress leader and Secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC), Chetan Chauhan on Tuesday held an important meeting with party workers of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee from different areas of Pulwama.
The meeting was held at the Wuyan area of Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district to review arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in the district which is scheduled to reach Awantipora on January 28 and will move through Srinagar-Jammu Pampore towards Srinagar.
Cheetan Chauhan, who is also an observer for Bharat Jodo Yatra, also addressed a huge gathering and prominent party workers. Those who participated and addressed the gathering in the meeting include the senior Congress leader, District President Pulwama Umar Jaan, Javaid Ahmad Magray and Adv Zameer Farooq, Abdul Majeed Wani. Other party workers included Naseer Ahmad Mir, Arfat Khan, Sarpanchs and others.
“Approximately 250 locals also participated in the programme which was organised by Adv Zameer Farooq at his residence in Wuyan,” a Congress leader told Kashmir Reader. On the occasion, Congress leaders raised slogans ‘Bharat Jodo Nafrat Chodo’ and ‘Rahul Gandhi Ji Qadam Badhaav Hum Tumhare Saath Hai’.
In his speech, Chetan Chauhan also talked about saffron cultivation in Pampore and various challenges faced by the growers. He said if Congress comes to power, they will sanction an amount of rupees 4,000 crore for Saffron expansion in Kashmir. He also invited his party workers and other residents to join Rahul Gandhi’s led Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“Today we met here for two purposes; one to talk to our local workers who have kept the Congress party alive in Kashmir and second to give an invitation to them for joining Bharat Jodo Yatra on January 28 from nearby Awantipora bypass and on January 30 at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar,” he told Kashmir Reader, adding that people in large numbers will join them.
“The number of people joining us will be more than that expected by us as is evident by the excitement they show for this yatra,” he said, adding that January 30 rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar will be historic as it will be the biggest rally there so far.
He also accused BJP leaders, PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah of keeping silent on real issues. “They don’t talk about unemployment, they don’t talk about restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and land laws,” he said, adding that they are silent on issues Rahul Gandhi raised through his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
“When they have nothing to say they talk about Rahul Gandhi’s T-shirt and why he is not bothered by cold,” he said, adding that BJP is talking about these things to mislead people about real issues.
“Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra has frightened BJP leaders and they are having nightmares since he undertook the yatra,” Chetan Chauhan said.
