Training programme on mushroom cultivation held at KVK Ganderbal

Ganderbal: KVK Ganderbal concluded one week STRY training on ‘Low Cost Mushroom Cultivation as alternative source of Rural Livelihood’ on 10th December, 2022 at Shuhama. The programme was organised from 04th to 10th December at KVK Ganderbal for rural youth of the District. The concluding session was presided over by Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal and attended by Scientific and Supporting staff of KVK Ganderbal and rural youth. More than thirty participants had registered for the programme.
The aim of the training programme was to popularize the use of locally available inputs for low cost Mushroom Cultivation as a source of income. At the outset, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, Training Coordinator presented a summary report regarding the six day training. It was revealed that thirty young, aspiring rural youth were trained regarding various aspects of Low Cost Mushroom Cultivation.
Speakers from various KVKs and Divisions of the University were invited as resource persons to enlighten the participants about scientific cultivation of mushrooms including economics of their production under varied conditions.
Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal emphasized on the nutritional value of Mushrooms and described mushroom cultivation as a viable and attractive activity for the rural youth. He encouraged the farmers to take up Mushroom cultivation, as is it highly remunerative and can be a source of employment. Dr. Abidi advised the participants to maintain regular contact with Team KVK for technical support in Mushroom Cultivation and thanked Vice Chancellor, Director Extension/ his team and MANAGE Hyderabad for ensuring skill literacy through conduct and sponsorship of STRY programmes.
During the feedback Session, participants that the training programme was highly impactful and helped to improve their skill. The participants were assured of full technological support from the KVK and University in taking up mushroom cultivation as an enterprise. The participants thanked the KVK for such a comprehensive programme and expressed their desire to start low-cost mushroom cultivation units at their households under the guidance of KVK.
The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Rafiya Munshi, SMS Home Science.
