KVK Srinagar organizes training programme on Soil Health Management

Srinagar: KVK Srinagar in collaboration with Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir organized a training programme on “Soil Health Management vis-vis- Soil Health Card Management” at KVK Campus today on 28th of November 2022. The programme was presided over by Dr. Sajad Mohiuddin, Sr. Scientist & Head attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Mr. Choudry Mohammad Younis, Chief Horticulture Officer, V.K Gupta, Dr.Shaista, Soil Scientist (SKUAST-K), Scientists from the KVK and Field Functionaries include AEOs, JAAs and HDO from the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture.
Dr.Uzma Bashir (SMS Soil Science) presented the formal welcome. Sr. Scientist & Head of the Kendra presented the overview of the programme and underlined the importance of soil health cards for the sustainability of soil health. Mr.V.K.Gupta, CHO and Mr.Choudry Mohammad Younis, CAO presented their remarks about the programme. Mr.V.K Gupta during his speech appreciated the role of KVK for conducting such awareness programmes for field functionaries for its further dissemination among the farming community through the workforce available with the department. Mr.Choudry Mohammad Younis briefed the participants about the different soil health management programmes launched by the Govt. of India, wherein he emphasized for coordination among line departments, KVK’s, farmers and other stakeholders for achieving sustainability in soil health. On this occasion a very informative lecture was delivered by Dr. Shayista, Soil Scientist from the Division of Soil Science, SKUAST-Kashmir. She briefed the audience about the soil health issues, nutrient use efficiency, soil contamination etc. Dr. Shayista also underscored the challenges of soil health in India and mentioned that soil testing laboratories in India are still inadequate to cope up with the soil testing of the whole farming community. A number of queries were raised about the soil health management for which on spot response was given by the soil experts Dr. Uzma Bashir and Dr. Shayista. At the end, Dr.Gazanfer Gani, SMS Floriculture thanked all dignitaries who presided over the programme and the participants from the line departments who also attended the programme.
