190 Kg poppy straw recovered by police from Punjab-bound truck in Pampore, 2 smugglers held one escapes

PAMPORE: Police recovered a huge quantity of poppy straw from an apple laden truck at Andrusoo Pampore area of police district Awantipora on Sunday.
Police said that it achieved a major success by recovering 190 Kilograms of poppy straw from a Punjab bound truck laden with apple boxes and arrested two persons boarding in the vehicle at Andrusoo area of Khrew Pampore.
A team from Police Station Khrew led by SHO Manzoor Ahmad under the supervision of SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad during checking at Andrusoo Pampore intercepted a Punjab bound truck bearing registration number PB19H-0454 which was coming from Munpora towards Jammu side.
Two Smugglers identified as truck driver Balraj Singh son of Ragvinder Singh, resident of Ludhiana, Punjab and Danish Gaffar Ganaie son of Abdul Gaffar, resident of Pohoo Pulwama Pulwama were arrested by police and recovered huge quantity of poppy straw, police officials told Kashmir Reader.
The third accused person managed to escape from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
On a tip-off, a special checking point was laid at Andrusoo village and a truck was signaled to stop by police, during the search of the apple landen vehicle, police recovered 190 Kilograms of poppy straw fitted in 22 apple boxes, SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader, adding the truck was going to Punjab from Kashmir.
The truck driver and his associate were arrested on the spot and another accused managed to escape from the spot, they said adding the vehicle used in the commission of the crime along with poppy straw was seized.
The arrested smuggler shifted to police station Khrew where they remain in custody. More arrests are expected in this case, he said.
A case FIR number 73 under section 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in police station Khrew and further investigation started. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, he said.
