DSEJ Organises Panel discussion on Drug de-addiction under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan”

“Sensitizes 40000 Students of 350 Schools”

JAMMU: Under the guidance and supervision of Director School Education Jammu, Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Counselling Cell, DSEJ today organized a panel discussion on Drug De- addiction as a part of month long campaign on NashaMukt J&K Abhiyan.
Vinay Kumar Sharma (SSP ANTF J&K), Dr. Abhishek Chowhan (Psychiatrist GMC Jammu), MsJasmeenKaurn (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr. Romesh Kumar(Head Counselling Cell,DSEJ) were the Panelists for the programme.
In the discussion, the speakers unequivocally stressed upon the need for creating awareness regarding drugs abuse, their long term harmful effects on physical and mental health especially among the students, Counselling and de-addiction mechanism so that they can prevent themselves from its menace.
Joint Director JKS, MsSubha Mehta gave the introductory address, thereby stressing upon the need and importance of creating awareness on drug abuse among the students. She emphasized the role of teachers as most prominent in the campaign. She further appreciated the counseling cell, DSEJ for their tireless efforts in creating awareness among students, teachers and other stakeholders.
SSP Vinay Kumar Sharma highlighted the role of police in curbing this menace, mechanism being followed by the Police Department, course of punishment in case of selling and consumption of drugs, and NDPS Act. He further advocated that the problem can completely be eradicated only by combined efforts of all members of society.
Dr. AbhishekChauhan discussed various types of drugs, signs and symptoms of a drug addict, harmful effects of drug intake on physical and mental health and the type of treatments available. He further added that drugs can prove to be a gateway for many terminal and deadly diseases.
Jasmeen Kour (Clinical Psychologist) discussed the various causes of drug addiction, role of a counsellor in drug de-addiction and various therapies that are being used.
Dr. Romesh Kumar, Head counseling cell, DSEJ discussed different interventions that are already being implemented at school level like implementation of TOFEI guidelines, constitution of Praheri clubs in all Govt. HS/HSS and also about counseling resource rooms in all schools of Jammu Division. He further appealed for positive engagement of the students (games, sports, yoga etc i) so as to channelize their energy and take care of their mental health.
The Panel discussion was conducted by Ms. Preeti Sharma by asking varied questions from the panelists on the given topic, whereas Ms. BinduKumari, Member counseling cell, DSEJ presented formal votes of thanks.
Dr. Alka Sharma, Counsellor Shanti Swaroop Sharma and Mr. Nirmal Sharma members counseling cell DSEJ helped in the smooth conduct of the proceedings.Healthy India’,” he added.
