Camp for screening of Alzheimer’s disease held at SDH Pampore, 15 symptomatic identified

PAMPORE: Geriatric Medical camp for Screening of Alzheimer’s disease organised by Block Medical Office Pampore held at SDH Pampore.
The camp was organised under the directions of Director Health Mushtaq Ahmad Rather.
About 100 patients above 60 years of age were examined for different ailments including Alzheimer’s disease by team of doctors.
The Geriatric Medical camp was inaugurated by BMO Pampore Dr Asima Nazir in presence of RMO SDH Pampore Dr Bilal Ahmad and other doctors, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Taking to Kashmir Reader Block Medical Officer Pampore Dr Asima Nazir told that the camp was organized with the help of Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
“A team of doctors and counselors screened people of certain age group for Alzeimer’s disease,” she said, adding that around 15 symptomatic persons were identified out of 25 persons screened in the camp.
She added that the history of the persons were noted by the doctors for further analysis.
Taking to Kashmir Reader Dr Saqiba Afzal, Geriatric specialist, said that the camp was organized on specific instructions of the DHSK for screening of Alzeimer’s disease.
She said that there is lack of awareness about Alzeimer’s disease and with age memory power starts decreasing and that we take as normal part of aging.
“This is not true, we have to see its progression and take timely steps to manage it,” she said, adding at mild stage this can be managed if not completely cured.
She added that around 15 symptomatic persons were identified and asked to report Geriatric OPD for further evaluation.
