BGSBU to launch a special plantation drive

Srinagar: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is going to launch a special plantation drive on the campus by the women folks including female teachers, staff, scholars and students.
The programme aims at highlighting the crucial interconnection between humans and nature, making the plants an inseparable part of the “family consciousness”, leading to environmental protection and women empowerment.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor BGSBU, Prof. Akbar Masood said that each woman member among the teaching and non teaching faculty of the University will take the responsibility of planting one sapling which they will plant in the open spaces around their respective departments / residential area or at any other designated spaces in the campus. Besides, five female students in the first semester from each of the departments of the University will also be planting one sapling each on their respective departmental premises. The Vice-Chancellor said that a nameplate indicating the name of the female who will plant the sapling and the date of the plantation drive will be placed at the plantation site.
However, those women who would like to place the name of their girl child instead of their name at the plantation site will be allowed to do so.
“This is to give a sentimental attachment to see the trees are taken care of after planting instead of just leaving them to their fate and to ensure 100 per cent survival and success of the plantation drive in the campus,” Prof. Akbar mentioned.
Prof. Akbar said that women being the harbinger of progress and prosperity can propel India towards a second green revolution provided they get opportunities. Prof. Akbar added that this female-centric plantation drive aims to ensure that women contribute effectively towards our initiatives of ” Green Campus”.
