PAMPORE: A Kadlabal Chowk in Saffron town Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been named as Shaheed Manzoor Chowk, after name of former Inspector Manzoor Ahmad who was killed in a militant attack 14 years ago.
On the eve of Independence Day and as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, administration paid homage to the late Manzoor Ahmad by naming Kadlabal Chowk as Shaheed Manzoor Chowk in his memory.
Late SHO Pampore Inspector Manzoor Ahmad killed by militants on 30 December 2006 along with his PSO Constable Chand Mohammad and a civilian Mushtaq Ahmad Ganaie resident of Namblabal Pampore at Shaheed Manzoor Chowk Pampore, police officer told Kashmir Reader.
A portrait of the slain police officer was installed on the newly constructed clock tower in the Kadlabal Chowk, now Shaheed Manzoor Chowk by authorities on Monday.
The family members of the slain police officer including his daughter and wife visited Pampore and paid floral tributes to the slain police officer at the clock tower on 76th Independence Day.
The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary, SSP Awantipora Mohammad Yousuf, ADC Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad, Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat, DSP DAR Awantipora Syed Fayaz Ahmad, SHO Pampore Adil Ashraf visited Shaheed Manzoor Chowk and paid homage to the slain police Inspector Manzoor Ahmad by showering flowers on his portrait at the site.
AEE R&B Mushtaq Ahmad, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Pampore Mohammad Iqbal, JE R&B Khalid Ahmad and other officials and employees were present on the occasion.
Talking to Kashmir Reader , Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary said that Manzoor Ahmad sacrificed his life for the country.
“The Chowk was named to pay homage to him,” he said, adding that his family was also invited to the site.
“The motive was to honour our martyr and his family members,” he said.
The family members of the slain police Inspector Manzoor Ahmad welcomed naming Kadlabal Chowk as Shaheed Manzoor Chowk Pampore.
