FoFy SKUAST signs MoU with ICAR- Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research Uttarakhand

SRINAGAR: SKUAST-Kashmir and ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR) entered into a MoU for mutual collaboration in research and other areas of interest. Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K and ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal both are the premier institutes of the country specialized in coldwater/Hill Fisheries.

Coldwater/Hill Fisheries College and is a common facility for other hill states of the country like Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh as two seats each in UG and PG are reserved for these states for Human Resource Development specific to
hill/coldwater fisheries.
The Faculty of Fisheries at present consists of nine specialized Divisions besides UG is offering masters in eight disciplines and Ph.D. in three disciplines. Likewise ICAR-DCFR is the premier Research Institute in the Country working towards sustainable development in Aquaculture, working in the areas of sustainable coldwater fisheries production, management, conservation and eco-tourism to realise and ensure the potentialities of livelihood opportunities among upland population.
The Memorandum of understanding was signed by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir and Dr
Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director ICAR-DCFR in presence of Prof. Nisar Ahmad Khan, Director Education. Prof. Masarat Khan, Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Wani, Dean, Horticulture, HoD’s and Faculty members of Faculty of Fisheries. Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir highlighted the importance of an alliance between the two Institutions to serve the farming community and for making the students more skill oriented. He said that signing of such MoUs will ensure
quality education and research that can make a difference to the society. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding, SKUAST-Kashmir will work with ICAR-DCFR in areas like submission of collaborative research projects, exchange of expertise, student exchange programmes, holding of joint conferences, workshops, publications, faculty and curriculum development.
