SERB sponsored workshop on Food Security & Safety starts at FVSc& AH, (SKUAST-K) Shuhama

Srinagar: A Seven Days High-End Workshop on “Ensuring food security and safety through research and development in livestock sector” was inaugurated today at Faculty Outreach Centre FVSc& AH, Shuhama by Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir Prof.Nazir Ahmad Ganai.
The workshop is being organized by Division of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir and is sponsored by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India under its Accelerate Vigyan Scheme.
The workshop is being heldfrom25thJuly-1stAugust 2022, wherein more than 25 postgraduate scholars of SKUAST-Kashmirwill actively be participating and deliberating on the theme with the experts of repute from national and international level across the globe.Today’s event at Faculty Outreach Centre was co-joined/combined withthe Valedictory function of earlier held similar kind of SERB sponsored workshop of Climate smart livestock farming organized by the same Division of Vet. & AH Extension at Shuhama.
Prof.Nazir Ahmad GanaiHon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir was the Chief Guest in the inaugural session of the workshop and was accompanied by Dean FVSc& AH,Prof. Mohammad Tufail Banday, Dr. Mahesh Chander, Joint Director Extension Education ICAR-IVRI and Prof. Abdul Hai, Incharge Faculty Outreach Centre on the dais. In addition to participants, the inaugural session was attended by many faculty scientists and organizing committee members in an impressive functionheld at SKUAST-K’s Outreach Centre at Shuhama.
In his inaugural address Prof.Nazir Ahmad Ganai highlighted the need and importance of resource management foroverall development of the agri-allied sectors. He further stressed upon on the need to have abetter innovative research in the field of food safety and security and the capacity building of human resource in this regard. Prof.Ganai informed the audience about the various measures taken up at University level for its efficient working alongside an improved credibility among their stakeholders.
Prof.M.T. Banday, Dean FVSc& AH also spoke on the various contours associated the training programme and raised the importance of having such kind of programmes in place for the development of budding researchers.
Dr. Mahesh Chander, from IVRIcongratulated the organizers for having sanctioned the two prestigious SERB High-End workshops&appreciated the efforts of the Div. of Vety. & AH Extension forits role in capacity building and other awareness programmes held frequently under the banner of Faculty Outreach Centre at Shuhama campus.
Earlier Prof. Abdul Hai, Head Division Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension formally welcomed the guests and participants and gave a brief account about the workshops. The inaugural function ended with the formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr.Shabeer Ahmad Hamdani, event organizer, Assistant Prof. Div. of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension , FVSc & AH Shuhama.
The participants of previous concluding workshop were presented with certificates and memento’s for their active presence during last 7 days at Shuhama campus of SKUAST-K.
