Khurshid Ganie delivers lecture on ‘Civil Services & Good Governance’ at IUST

AWANTIPORA: Former Advisor to Governor J&K and retired senior IAS officer, Khurshid Ahmed Ganie delivered a talk on “Civil Services and Good Governance” at IUST today on July 20, 2022. The aim of the session was to expose the students to the nuances of Civil Services Examination and help them understand the structure of the Indian Civil Services. The session was organized by Career Counselling and Placement Cell of the university in collaboration with Department of Management Studies.
The speaker spoke at length about the history of Civil Services in India.He said “The administration in the pre-independence era was for maintaining law and order but with the introduction of the Civil services, the focus shifted to development administration”. Talking about the importance of a well-defined governance system in a nation, he said ‘The worth of a nation does not depend merely on the natural resources but on other critical factors that include quality of human resource, innovative technologies and above all good governance”.
Speaking about the relevance of digital communication in e-governance, he shared the information about the e-Unnat initiative, CPGRAMS(Centralized Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System), implementation of e-offices, BPR (Business Process Re-engineering)and encouraged the students for undertaking training in e-communication, the expert emphasised that with the “services available to people at the click of a button on e-portals, the civil service officials also need to be updated and trained, to provide efficient public services”.
